There's no doubt about it. The largest and most successful companies in the world know how to get the consumer's attention. In some cases they have enticed entire countries into identifying their product as being the most desirable in it's class. This is the reason they're happy to outlay millions of dollars each year promoting themselves.
Advertising works! That's a cold hard fact. In the marketplace there are two distinct classes of business, those who increase their profit margins by creating successful ad campaigns and those who spend their money advertising but achieve little. Advertising done incorrectly doesn't work.
Which category does your business fall into? If your advertising is not performing the way you would like it to ask yourself, "what are the successful advertisers doing that I'm not?" The most common mistake business owners make when allocating their marketing budget is to spend practically all their money on air time and sadly very little, if any, on the production of memorable and consistent ad campaigns. If the consumer doesn't remember it, the consumer won't buy it. It really is that simple. The harsh reality is that air time and print costs remain identical regardless of your particular ad's ability to develop business. Used wisely television, radio, and the print media can be extremely effective tools in persuading the public to spend your money with the business. Remember advertising does work for those who know how to play the game.

When you're next developing an ad campaign remember these two basic rules:

  • Make it memorable - design the ad so it sticks in people's minds.
  • Make it consistent - hammer home a common theme throughout your entire campaign.

The next time the buying public is in need of your products or services you want them to automatically think of you.

  • You want your name to be the first that springs to mind. Develop a memorable campaign, don't just spend the money you budgeted on air time and print costs and then wonder why your ads don't bring in the business you expected.

There are several marketing techniques that can be used to access a wide range of industries however one method in particular works well in most circumstances. Take a moment to try this little exercise. I think you'll find it interesting.

    Answer this question:

    "Old McDonald had a ___ ___ ___ __? E-I-E-I-O"

You knew immediately that the answer was 'farm' because you could sing the song you remembered from childhood. Songs stick in people's minds. A clever song (or jingle) used in conjunction with a good slogan is one of the most effective ways to etch your business name into the minds of your customers. Well written jingles will attach your name to a memorable piece of music and also give you the ability to play that music each time you advertise thus creating consistency. Remember the rules - Make it Memorable. Make it Consistent.

Creating an effective ad campaign will definitely provide a boost to your business. That's a 100% guaranteed. Take the time to think it over before you spend any more money.
